Scholastic is a company that started by publishing literacy magazines, which is still their focus today, although they have diversified since their inception. They have grown to include book publishing (they publish over 600 titles every year) and distribution, educational technology for schools and teachers, and media production of children's shows such as Clifford the Big Red Dog®. Scholastic has nothing but rave reviews about their products, with exception of a few negative remarks. Here is a sampling of some of the reviews for their products found on Amazon:
"My kids love this calendar and I love that its resusable. We use it every day and find that it helps with the concept of the days of the week, months and numbers." -Josette Delgado-Gutierrez
"This is a fantastic book! We just received May I Please Have A Cookie a few days ago and we've already read it so many times that we've practically got it memorized! The story teaches a valuable lesson and the illustrations are terrific. My six-year-old laughs every time he sees the picture where Alfie's pretend moustache falls off" - Lynda B. Hoffmaster
"My daughter loves this book, it is practical and organized. She is 6 and she reads as a second grader." - Isabel
"These words are a must for any kindergartener to learn. My son enjoys learning the words and learning how to read more of them each day. Great product for those with young kids." - Curt
"Summary: GREAT! Having gone through what feels like every workbook known to man - or at least Borders, I feel like I can finally stop my quest for the perfect workbook. The book's colors are vibrant, the pictures contemporary, and the content interesting.
Topics are color coded and separated by subject: phonics, reading, social studies, science, sequencing, measurements, math. I am really impressed with the mix of different subjects, especially the science, which is often overlooked in workbooks. The topics are age-appropriate, for instance coloring the land masses and oceans of the earth, reading a short passage on the sun and answering questions (e.g. Is the sun a planet or a star?)." "This workbook's graphics, paper quality and size give it a stimulating, well-made feel. Most pages, though, have only 3-5 problems. The oversized pages could have packed in many more exercises. My daughter can't build up a lot of momentum because she has to learn a new set of instructions every few minutes as she completes pages and moves on." - Read More...
"I add words to my son's "sight word" list when we come across a word that is hard to sound out or he is having trouble with and I see that it has been coming up a lot in his readings. Well, some of the words on my son's list show up on this book's 3rd grade list. This seems silly to me since he is entering 1st grade and reading on his grade level." Read More...
